Two more people died on Wednesday of seasonal influenza in Khanewal, which brings the death toll to 40.
The deceased, identified as Muhammad Wasim and Muhammad Mubeen, hailing from Khanewal, died of the disease at the Nishter Hospital. Their brother, Muhammad Fahim has alo been shifted to the hospital after contracting the disease.
The mother of the deceased has asked the Punjab CM for financial assistance since her third son is struggling for his life at the hospital.
Just yesterday, three more people had died owing to the disease, with the province on hold to issue a pandemic alert.
Health department spokesperson Dr Attaur Rehman had informed the media previously that some 242 cases of seasonal influenza had been reported and the presence of H1N1 pathogen had been confirmed in 120 individuals.
It is pertinent to mention here that in its last press release on seasonal influenza, the department accepted that the ailment had become an epidemic, but said that it was showing a decline with each passing day.
However contagious the disease may be, effective countermeasures have been taken which include the provision of a sufficient stock of medicines currently available in hospitals in Punjab, including DHQs and THQs.
It was decided in the meeting that with the help of Punjab Health Care Commission all the private hospitals will be directed to ensure reporting of seasonal flu according to the standard of procedure (SOP).
