If the traders of Super Market were subjected to forced evictions, shutter down strike would be observed in the federal capital: ICCI
Traders of Super Market and the Traders Action Committee Islamabad met to pass a unanimous resolution calling upon the caretaker Prime Minister Justice (Retd) Nasirul Mulk to issue orders for halting the forced evictions of traders from shops in Islamabad.
Their meeting at Chamber House was presided over by Amir Waheed, President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) and all the important officials of ICCI were present on the occasion.
The traders’ community also asked the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar to take suo motu notice of the forced evictions of traders from Super Market in Islamabad as “these evictions were in sheer violation of the basic human rights” they held in an additional resolution passed at the meeting.
ICCI President Amir Waheed said that there is a total of 24 traders of Super Market who were at the risk of forced evictions despite the fact that they were doing business in the locality for the last 25 years.
He said the main reason behind the forced evictions was that the rental agreements of traders were not formally registered.
He added that it is usual practice that rent agreements are signed by the landlords and the tenant shopkeepers, but traders should not be subjected to forced evictions if their rental agreements were not registered.
He assured that ICCI would extend all possible support to the just causes of the traders.
The meeting agreed that if the traders of Super Market were subjected to forced evictions, shutter down strike would be observed in the federal capital.
