Rawalpindi

A man was allegedly tortured to death while in police custody within the limits of Saddar Bairuni Police Station in Rawalpindi.

The family of the deceased has claimed that he was detained illegally to begin with and later died in the hospital due to the police torture.

In line with the details, Saddar Bairuni police had arrested him some four days back for his alleged involvement in a burglary case. The police team in the police station had tortured him badly. After he was unable to sustain any more brutality, the family says the police released him.

The man was taken to hospital, where two days later he died. Medico-legal reports are yet to confirm whether he was killed by the police brutality or not. So far, the family has blamed Saddar Bairuni and RA Bazaar police for killing the victim.

Following the victim’s death on Wednesday, family members and relatives staged a protest against the police brutality meted out to the father of three. They also chanted slogans against the illegal confinement and torture.

The protestors have appealed to Chief Justice Saqib Nisar to take notice of the incident and to initiate an inquiry against the brutality by Station House Officers (SHOs) of Saddar Bairuni and RA Bazar police stations.

While taking notice of the incident, CPO Rawalpindi has sought report on the incident from DSP Saddar.
