Ephedrine quota case t o be heard on a daily basis
Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench directed subordinate court to start hearing of ephedrine case against eight accused persons including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate from NA-60 Muhammad Hanif Abbasi on day-to-day basis, sources told.
According to the sources, the LHC ordered the lower court to conduct the hearing in the ephedrine quota case against eight accused including PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi and his brother Basit Abbasi from July 16 adding that the decision be announced till July 21 after conducting the hearing on day to day basis.
A single bench of LHC Rawalpindi bench led by Justice Ibadur Rehman Lodhi issued these orders on a petition filed by local lawyer Shahid Orakzai against adjournment of hearing of ephedrine quota case against Hanif and others by Anti-Narcotics Special Court (ANSC) Rawalpindi.
According the sources, the court remarked that order sheet of subordinate court on adjournment of the hearing of this case be presented before the court to ascertain the reasons behind prolonged adjournment of the case.
Moreover, the court also remarked that adjourning the case for one month is tantamount to giving relieves to the accused. “Now the court itself will issue the schedule of hearing of this case,” the judge observed.
Tanvir Iqbal counsel for Hanif Abbasi took the plea that the defence has always insisted on early hearing of the case.
However, the counsel for Hanif maintained that day to day hearing of the case will not be possible.
The court ordered for issuing schedule of the hearing of the case that hearing be started from July 16 and case be concluded till July 21 after conducting hearing on daily basis.
