Misappropriation on a large scale has been unearthed in the funds of the Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (CTP), well-placed sources told Daily Morning Mail on Thursday.
The funds were embezzled from the Traffic Wardens Welfare Funds, Lifter Earnings and from the funds used for petrol of motorcycles and vehicles of the traffic police.
The sources said that the funds were stolen from different heads in CTP such as maintenance of vehicles. Illegal cuttings were made from the monthly approved petrol of 20 to 50 litres while Rs400 were deducted from the pay of every warden as a welfare fund monthly.
However, no warden has received such funds in case of an urgent need, the sources said. The complex application process is also a hurdle in achieving the welfare fund on the occasion of a death or a marriage, the sources said.
The CTP has 48 vehicles, three buses, 250 CC 113 heavy motorcycles, 467 CG Honda 125 and six DSPs using vehicles with 400 litres of fuel approved per month, whereas for a Cultus vehicle, 200 litres petrol and for a 250 CC motorcycle, 60 litres of petrol is approved per month.
The Daily Morning Mail has learnt that every vehicle and motorcycle was given less petrol as compared to the approved quantity.
CTP MTO Kamran, on the other hand, rejected all the allegations saying no vehicle was given less quantity of petrol, and nothing was cut from the wardens’ pay and the GP fund.
