Prayers for Begum Kulsoom held in London

Funeral scheduled at Jati Umra today

The funeral prayers for Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, spouse of jailed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, were offered in Regent Park Mosque at London.

Family members, including former Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif, Hussain Nawaz, Hassan Nawaz and former finance minister Ishaq Dar and former interior minister Chaudhary Nisar were in attendance.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif and other family members arrived in London on Wednesday night to attend the funeral and to bring Kulsoom’s body back to Pakistan.

A PIA flight carrying the casket will fly from Heathrow airport and will land in Pakistan on Friday at 6am, funeral will be held at Jati Umra same evening. Kulsoom will be laid to rest the same day beside the grave of her father-in-law Mian Sharif in Jati Umra.

Asma Nawaz, daughter of late former first lady, will accompany her mother’s body during their journey back to Lahore.

Whereas, the sons of former premier Nawaz Sharif, Hussain Nawaz and Hasan Nawaz, will not be coming to Pakistan.

Pakistan High Commission in London has issued NOC in this regard.

Meanwhile, the ANP leaders were barred from condoling with Nawaz. Awami National Party (ANP) leaders Afrasiab Khattak and Zahid Khan were barred by the administration from offering condolences to jailed PM Nawaz on his spouse’s death on Thursday.

Both leaders strongly protested against the misbehavior of the administration.

“ANP leaders Afrasiab Khattak and Zahid Khan arrived at Jati Umra, Lahore from Peshawar on Thursday to meet Nawaz and offer their condolences to him on his wife Kulsoom Nawaz’s death. But the administration stopped them from condoling with the former premier,” sources said.

Both leaders were annoyed and strongly protested against the mistreatment and expressed disappointment over the incident, sources added.
