Newly-weds to be registered for family planning
The Rawalpindi District Population Welfare Department (PWD) has planned to formally register newly married couples to create awareness among them about family planning.
PWD Director Shireen Sukhan said that the newly-wed couples would be registered at the union council level in all tehsils of the district so that they could be effectively educated about the family planning.
She said that the use of contraceptives would also help in controlling the increasing population rate.
She said that six teams would register newly married couples at union council level and the proposals put forward by the health authorities and other organisations are being collected and examines in this regard.
Shireen said that the issue of rapid population growth can only be resolved if people cooperate with the PWD as the latter was trying its level best to expand reproductive health services in all areas.
She said that adolescent centres have also been established in Punjab for holding counselling sessions and to give guidance to the youngsters about the challenges of the population explosion while mobile units have also been activated to provide reproductive health facilities at people’s doorstep.
