Friends-only aid: Trump terms Iran regime ‘corrupt dictatorship’ and ‘sowing chaos, death, destruction’, in his UN speech

United Nations

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the United States would only give aid to countries that it regarded as allies. “Moving forward, we are only going to give foreign aid to those who respect us and frankly are our friends.”

Iran sanctions: Tump blasted Iran as a “corrupt dictatorship” and threatened more sanctions against Tehran. “Iran’s leaders sow chaos, death and destruction,” Trump told the annual gathering. “They do not respect their neighbours or borders or the sovereign rights of nations.” Trump’s speech while relatively low key, was aimed squarely at Iran.

Trade reforms: Trump called for international trade reforms and littered his remarks with vows to protect American sovereignty and reject globalism. He also asked Opec to stop raising oil prices and to pay for their military protection. He threatened to limit US aid only to countries that are friendly to the US.  Reuters
