Awareness seminar held to mark kidney day





Kidney Patients Association here on Monday organized an awareness seminar to mark the World Kidney Day.

Seminar was held at Tahli Mohri Road, Kamalabad, and Rawalpindi. Secretary Admin. Col. (R) Mushtaq Qureshi presented progress report for the year 2018.

Speaking on the occasion, Brig. (R) Dr. Shahzad Saeed Nephrologist highlighted the function of kidneys, their diseases and preventive measures to protect these vital organs.

He talked about the two major causes of kidney failure; mentioned as diabetes and hypertension. He stressed the need to have Renal Function Test, a simple blood test, should be conducted every six months to ensure that kidneys were functioning properly.

Balanced diet, improved lifestyle, regular exercise, and appropriate fluid intake are must to maintain kidney health. If kidney function was reduced, patients should ensure that they take medicines as prescribed by their doctor, he added.

Secretary Information Squadron Leader (R) Ghulam Abbas thanked the participants while Gen. (R) Zaheeruddin and Gen. (R) Sarfraz and Gen. (R) Naeem Khalid Lodhi hoped the seminar would help create awareness about the screening of people in “high-risk groups” for kidney diseases.
