Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) has demanded of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan to interfere in Sindh.

MQM-P convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and fellow party leaders while addressing a conference here Saturday said people resources have been snatched in the name of provincial autonomy.

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said chief secretary Sindh belongs to interior Sindh. Those who had dismembered Pakistan have now divided Sindh.

He held that properties were snatched from Muhajirs in the name of nationalization.  Sindh has been divided into two parts already through quota system. The attitude of PPP has led to division of Sindh. Sindh are two and only announcement has yet to be made.

“The 18th Amendment was done by claiming that the devolution of power to the bottom-most levels was necessary,” he said. “But we, as well as the public, were deceived. Instead of devolution of power, there was an accumulation of power in provinces through the 18th Amendment.

The resources of Sindh should be devolved at gross root level forthwith. Karachi is becoming victim of multiple problems including water problem fast. Constitutional measures be taken to give their due and just rights to urban areas, he demanded.

He stated that jobs are given in rural areas and then they are posted in urban areas.  Commissioner, DC and other officers of Karachi hail from rural areas of Sindh, he added.

Hatred prevails in urban areas of Sindh against quota system.

The population of urban areas of Sindh is over 40 million and it is responsibility of federation to take action against injustice. Article 149 is part of the constitution and it is for use.

“Now, it is the federal government’s responsibility that it takes action on this level of injustice,” he said. “We have dozens of human rights petitions pending in courts. All we had asked the honourable courts was to remove the impediments on our way to justice.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, following MQM-P convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and co’s stinging press conference, on Saturday advised MQM-P to “leave their ethnic politics behind and work with PPP for Karachi’s betterment”.

Addressing a press conference in Khalidabad “I ask them to forget this ethnic politics and work with PPP,” Bilawal said. “I am also the son of Karachi, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto was also born in Karachi. We want to work for the people, with the KMC, devolve the powers more in local bodies … these were all MQM’s points.

“If they want that work gets done then MQM should stand with us. If they want to have Sindh’s people fighting one another then they should keep this up. But what will happen then is that they will suffer and even worse defeat. MQM has several good people but they should forget their old politics.”
